I have been a “dog person” for as long as I can remember. I was raised with hunting dogs, but switched to GSD as an adult. I have always worked with my dogs teaching good manners and stupid pet tricks, but never anything serious. I was introduced to Schutzhund work when I got my male GSD in 2004 and was immediately hooked. My goals are to make training as much fun for my dogs as it is for me and see what titles we can get on the way.

I also design and make a line of custom training products. www.customk9creations.com

I began my interest in working dogs in 1991. I have owned and bred Presa Canarios since 1998. Since then I searched for a good training group/person. This took me thru MANY sub-par trainers who only did damage to my dogs. This club is the first official working club I have ever been a member of and I can't see myself working with anyone else. I've since formed my own Working Breed Club called the Working Dogo Canario Alliance.

In August of 2006 I purchased the only Schutzhund I Presa Canario in the USA. In a matter of 8 months, with the help of Steve and this awesome group of club members, I was able to put a II on her. At the time of her very untimely death, she was the only Schutzhund II of her breed in the USA. I will miss her dearly.

My goal for 2010 are to bring up some new promising puppies, putting the proper foundation of the three phases of this sport and prepare them for titling in the near future.

I started with Schutzhund around 1990 or so and soon after helped to start a local club where I spent many years. I discovered fairly early that while I enjoy training my own dogs, competing didn't hold much appeal to me. However, as a helper I found tremendous satisfaction in helping other dog and handler teams to understand the many skills needed to succeed in their work and to overcome the various training obstacles we all face. I've done trial helper work but found my niche as a training helper in helping "problem" dogs overcome their issues and reaching goals that at some point seemed unlikely, whether it be a Schutzhund title or becoming a more effective Police K9. I am happy to now be training with a great group where we share both a positive outlook and positive training methods to try to get the best out of the dogs and develop into the strongest dog/handler teams possible.

I am also a freelance artist who specializes in working dog art. Some people in the working dog community may have seen my designs through Topdog Designs and more recently Signature K9.

I have been fascinated by the abilities of the GSD for a long time. I was finally in a position to get a dog. After talking to numerous breeders, I found Whiskey at Kenwick kennels. The folks at RWDC have been very patient with all my questions, and are always willing to assist me with more effective training techniques. I have been to several trainers trying to find a place that both Whiskey and I would be happy with. We have arrived! Whiskey and I couldn’t be happier! My goals are simple. Have fun and go as far in this sport as we are able.

I grew up around dogs and have always had one in the family. I was given my first "own" dog my sophomore year of college. Will (a Lab/Aussie mix) taught me the joys of both Obedience and Agility training and I've been hooked on dogs ever since! After two years in college I attended a trade school for dog training and graduated in August 2004. It was here that I learned about and gained and interest in the sport of Schutzhund.

Though dog training was my life, the more I worked with dogs the more I realized that traditional training methods just didn't seem to fit; and it wasn't until November 2005, when I was introduced to Steve and the rest of the Riverfront Working Dog Club, that I really felt at home. With the help of Steve and the use of Operant Conditioning I have been able to title my female German Shepherd Dog, Aridan, in Schutzhund, AKC Obedience and even Iron Dog events!

Now that Aridan is retired, I hope to continue training to the best of my abilities and follow in Aridan’s successes in the sports of Schutzhund, AKC, Agility and even Dock Diving with all of my future dogs.

I've grown up with dogs, and my mother founded Furry Kids Refuge, a non-profit animal rescue, so I've had a lot of different experiences with a variety of breeds. I found Schutzhund by fostering Eik, a GSD that ended up having bilateral hip displaysia surgery. I searched the internet for an activity to help with his rehabilitation, and I found Riverfront. The first time I visited, I knew this club's beliefs and methods were exactly what I needed. Fortunately, I'm a foster failure, and Eik is a great pet. Now I'm learning the workings of operant conditioning with Quinn, my malinois. I feel so lucky to have such a helpful, positive group practically in my backyard. I'm still just as excited every day to work with my dog and learn from this great group.
